Welcome to the world Calvin!

Calvin Lucas was born Wednesday, August 3rd at 12:13 pm.  Our little boy is doing wonderfully despite a bit of a rough start.

Everything went as scheduled  on Wednesday.  We were just getting Peyton out the door to head over to Gram’s when the hospital called and said to head in right away, that it had been moved up.  We did just that, got all checked in and then waited…don’t know what happened with their schedule but the c-section happened right on time, at noon.  They got me on the table, got the spinal in, which went fast and I was numb in no time.  While we were waiting the dr and nurses were laughing at how much the baby was moving in my belly, as always it never stopped.  Then the sheet went up, Jeff came in and before I knew it “It’s a boy!” and he was crying and then there he was all slimy but perfect.  They took him over to clean him up and do all the new baby things while they finished up with me.  Then we all headed back to the room where Jeff’s mom and Peyton were waiting for us.   Peyton was very happy to hear she had a little brother.

Then it all got quite busy and I don’t remember the exact order of things.  They had Calvin in the little bed with oxygen on him because his breathing was too fast and his o2 levels were too low.  I know at some point I got to hold and feed him.  Then he was back in the bed under the hood with oxygen.  Funny thing is that he never made any noise during all of this but he also never stopped moving around, he was very active, which they said was a good sign.  After an hour they said they were give him 1 more hour before they would have to take him to the NICU.  He was put on my chest to try to get his breathing down, which was really nice to be able to snuggle with him. It went back and forth for almost the full 2 hours, until the nurse thought he was doing better. So I nursed him again without any oxygen near him and his numbers stayed up, finally he was in the clear.

After that I waited for the meds to wear off, it took a long time to get any feeling back in my legs.  The first night was hard only because I was still not able to get up and move around.  The next morning I was able to get up and move around and then finally got the IV out.  I felt good that morning but then later in the day I was in a lot of pain, luckily Jeff was there for me and the nurses got me on some stronger meds so I was able to relax and sleep some.

We came home friday afternoon, just had a relaxing morning at the hospital took our time leaving.  Peyton had lunch with us there and helped us pack everything up.  She was a bit cranky on the way home, then there was just silence, both of them fell asleep.  Last night went ok, he slept good for about 3 hours in his bed, then was up to eat but fussed when I put him back down, so he stayed in bed with us and slept, but then I didn’t very much. He has slept quite a bit today already, so we will see how tonight goes.  I know in another week when I am feeling like myself again things will be better, it will just take time.
